Wright Pottery

Denise Wright

Denise completed courses in Studio Ceramics, Sculpture and Architectural Ceramics before becoming a full-time studio potter, 25 years ago.

Her work is inspired by beautiful Moreton Bay and Coochiemudlo Island where she lives.   These influences over the years, have seen her work include highly textured forms through to her present series which reflects the brilliant colours of the region, adorned with the jewel-like qualities of lustres and gold work.

Each item of porcelainous clay is individually crafted and its’ semi- abstract underglaze decoration follows the form of the piece.   A clear satin glaze is applied and the pot is fired up to fives times to achieve the desired effect.  Although this type of work is time consuming, it is satisfying to the soul to see the piece come ‘alive’ at the end.

Her work has appeared in numerous shows and exhibitions and is in collections both in Australia and overseas.

Viv Wright

After completing a three year course in Studio Ceramics as well as numerous other workshops by top potters, Viv has been a full time studio potter for the past 22 years.

He has always aspired to elegance and beauty of form and has a passion for experimenting with quality glazes which makes every kiln opening an exciting event.   At various times he has used crawl and mud-crack textured glazes in conjunction with traditional stoneware glazes and in recent years, his experiments have involved crystalline and lustre.

Crystalline glazes are fired for 12 to 18 hours to enable the crystals to form randomly in the glaze and the shapes of the crystals depend on glaze ingredients and length of firing.

Viv’s work has been shown in numerous shows and exhibitions and is in private and public collections here and overseas.
